Duck Hunting

Season: November – January

Nested at the bottom of the Mississippi Flyway, Plaquemines Parish is host to an incredibly diverse variety of bird and duck species. Every year, millions of ducks take flight from the north to make their winter homes here in the Mississippi River Delta. Mallards, Pintail, Widgeon, Canvasback, Scaup, Ringneck, Gadwell, and Blue and Green-wing Teal are among many of the common species often found in and around Plaquemines Parish.

For hunting license information, please visit the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Gator Hunting

Season: September 1st – 17th

Alligators are no strangers to Plaquemines Parish and the wetlands of Louisiana. These enormous apex predators grow up to 600 pounds and 18 feet in length. If you’ve ever dreamed of going toe-to-toe with a dinosaur, gator hunting is about as close as you can get.
After a successful gator hunt, the reptile may be harvested for its meat and hide. Hunters may also opt to have the gator’s head mounted as a trophy.

Licenses & Restrictions

Non-residents of Louisiana can only harvest alligators as an alligator sport hunter while accompanied by a guide. A guide must be an alligator hunter possessing tags. An alligator Sport Hunter License costs $25 for Louisiana residents and $150 for non-residents. Learn more at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
