Fishing

In Plaquemines Parish, fishing is a way of life. Flanking both sides of the Mississippi River, the Parish resides in one of the world’s greatest deltas. Our bayous and marsh crisscross the land until opening up into the expansive Gulf of Mexico. From deep sea adventures to inland hot spots, Plaquemines is ideal fishing territory for all types of anglers. Book a charter to fish for giant reds or speckled trout, spend the day fly fishing in the marsh, or rent a cabin over the water and enjoy the convenience of cooking your catch fresh from the dock.

For fishing license information, please visit the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Freshwater Fishing

Even before the first man rigged together a fishing rod, the Mississippi River and its tributaries have been siphoning the best topsoil from the better part of the continent. For millions of years, these nutrients have flowed down the river and deposited into our wetlands, ultimately manifesting in some of the most rich and diverse habitats in the world. Many of these habitats are ripe with freshwater fishing opportunities.

Plaquemines Parish is littered with fresh water systems such as ponds, lakes, canals, and marsh. In virtually any of these waters, you can expect to catch a wide variety of freshwater species, including largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish. Some species, such as the alligator gar, are known to reach sizes of epic proportions.
